Can I fake GPS location?
Discussion
My Employer wants us to start clocking in and out using a mobile app called "Deputy" which records your GPS location on clocking in.
Is there anyway to make my iPhone location at my works address at say 6am while I am at home in bed
Ive used VPN's etc to show myself in a different country for Netflix etc, but is there any way to trick the GPS?
Obviously hypothetically ...........

That is the most compelling reason to leave an organisation. Is there anyway to make my iPhone location at my works address at say 6am while I am at home in bed

Do you ever see these motivational quotes on LinkedIn?
When did you ever see one that said "Our employees are our most valuable resource - we track their phones to clock in.."?
Get a new (better) job.
Sorted Itools pro has done the job.
Its not just an iPhone app (couldn't find one), but a MacBook app which when you plug iPhone into, you can select a location.
To revert back, looks like I just need to turn iPhone off and back on.
Will clock in as soon as I wake up in the morning, and see what the boss says........

Is your pay linked to the hours you work determined by clocking in and out?
Are there contractural and operational reasons for you to be in certain location when you clock in?
If there are, then you need to tread very carefully because if you deliberately falsify the system you can put yourself in very murky legal waters.

Is your phone provided by your work?
I would be hesitant to start messing around with GPS spoofing on a device not owned by you, can’t you just turn it off and pretend you forget to charge it?
No its my own personal phone, so pretty sure I can have the GPS set to how I like really.I would be hesitant to start messing around with GPS spoofing on a device not owned by you, can’t you just turn it off and pretend you forget to charge it?

As for fire regs, well if there going to use the data to see who is in work, are you happy for the fire brigade to go into a burning building to look for you while your home in bed.
To be honest, it sounds like your employer is pissed at paying people who perhaps are not where their claiming to be.

Work phone, yes, provided there's some way they can link it to T&Cs.
Just don't install the app.
Can’t fathom why you don’t just use the system as it’s intended to be used? Unless you’re wilfully defrauding your employer of course which is something of a slippery slope.
And if it is to do with fire regs then what happens when there’s a fire drill and you’re allegedly in the building when you’re not?
Doesn’t seem like an awful lot of good can come from this on the face of it!

How much extra are they paying you for the use of your phone and data to help run their company?
Also are you sure that they cannot activate said application remotely to see exactly where you are at any given time?
I would be suggesting that if they want to use a mobile device for company business they need to supply such a device.
I would also mention that as most people put their phone on the desk once at work and we are to in the event of a fire leave all are belongings and quickly evacuate the building it would not be to great at its intended purpose
