Fired my Ender 3 Pro up yesterday...
So far, a few upgrades for the printer - upper and lower filament guides, display pcb back.
And these:
Have downloaded and sliced a dozen others to put on the queue. Think I need to get octoprint setup - Mrs is always home to take prints off, but it'd be nice to be able to send direct from work.

I printed a steering wheel on my ender 3, always meaning to wrap the grips in suede etc but its harder than it looks ha.
currently building a new 3d printed wheel based on the mclaren gt3 wheel. Reckon I could take the grips to an upholsterer or material person and ask them if they could do it?

I've just got a logitech g29/pedals/shifter and looking for a few bits to print!
The shifter outer cover is 3d printed but not by me.
Ordered from here, works out about £110 shipped from last time I checked, Its an awesome shifter, probably on bar with the thrustmaster th8 or whatever its called and switches to sequential shifter much easier (press and twist), I only really use it as a sequential and it has a really nice snap back to centre.

I wouldnt bother trying to mod the standard one, there is a 3d printed stiffener type thing but will it doesnt do much and tends to break from the mounting point.
aside from wheels, there isnt really much else bar stuff for different rigs like 80/20 frames and stuff.
Just have a browse through thingiverse (when it decides to work) look under g27 or sim racing in the search (it can be a bit buggy and just not bring any results for some reason)

I'd say Autodesk Fusion 360 is the best free CAD programme for designing stuff to be 3D printed.
Cost probably isn't that high, maybe show people an example photo of what it is you need? If it's a small item and a one-off job, a lot of hobbyists will probably do it for a nominal amount to cover postage and a pint. Depends how big it is! Let's be honest, a lot of us just like messing about with things!
In terms of "useful" prints, I've made stuff like a replacement for an unobtainable (in the UK) air filter on one of my cars:
Plus things like a steering column cowl, a few switch blanks adaptors to fit USB ports, brackets for fitting head units etc.
I also made a threaded test piece for my dad to confirm a thread on his project car is the (unusual) thread we thought it was:

I don't know how people think of things to make, that make them worth cluttering up the house with. I work every day with multi-million pounds' worth of additive manufacturing/3D printing equipment, have done for over 15 years, and I can count the number of homers I've made on one hand.

I'm sitting on the fence of getting one... pc has just blown-up, so could be one for the frivolous thread if I stopped procrastinating...
A friend at work has had one for a while (cheap Alibaba one - around £95) and has made a vast array of bits... from the basic boat (Benchy?) through to the articulated slug and robots... also a full-size Holy Handgrenade of Antioch anyone?
As someone mentioned before, lots of items that take up space...
In saying that, he has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of weaponry through the ages and has printed some pretty accurate full size weapons... then painted them - and it has really piqued my interest.
How about a musket? (tiny part missing - frizzen? - but it had not been attached!)
Or an STG-44? (Mag removable/moving trigger and cocking lever)

I've got 2 and I love them. I've made plenty of useless stuff/toys from Thingiverse but I also made a few things that are in daily use around the home with a few more at the planning stage.
I've been using SketchUp, which has really restricted me as it's simply not intended for this sort of use. I'll be switching shortly as I've had a few models built in SketchUp that just won't slice correctly for print, which is really frustrating.
It's probably the most frustrating hobby I have, but the satisfaction when it all works is incredible!
