Some Kindle questions....
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
I'm probably going to get a Kindle tomorrow but i'm torn between the paperwhite (£109), the Fire (£129) or the Fire HD (£159).
Now, it'll almost exclusively be for reading, so i'm most likely going to get the paperwhite; which i want over the boggo version for the touch screen/tactility as well as the light and the better resolution.
so, what are the realistic advantages for the fire and fire HD over the paperwhite? is the paperwhite better for purely reading?
i know you can store a LOT of books on the paperwhite, but is there any chance of running low on space? and if that may be a possibility, if you delete purchased books, could you download them again for free?
as said, i suspect it'll be the paperwhite i go for, but unsure.....if i get a Fire, it'll likely be the HD but not sure if it's throwing an extra £50 away for no reason; and i'm not sure if offers a better reading experience or not...?
thanks!!

I have the original cheap Kindle and it has got me into reading books again. I have the app on my phone, iPod and computer but they have too many distractions, including PH
The battery life on the basic one is amazing as well. I have had it 2 months and it's only been on charge once. My kids all have Fires, which are great but there is no chance of them doing any reading as they are brilliant for games and surfing the web plus they need charging all the time.
The other benefit of the original is that it is small and wafer thin so easily carried in a coat pocket.
Don't worry about storage as all your purchases are kept in the 'cloud' to be downloaded whenever you want. My other reason for sticking with the boggo version is that it doesn't induce eyestrain which all other computers, tablets and backlit devices do and I find that I sleep better if I have not been staring at a screen just before bedtime.
My experience has been that a Kindle is just the same as reading a book without the weight especially if you are traveling and like to bring a few books with you.

Mine is an original Kindle, I had 980 odd books on there at one point, still had space to spare, so yes it is possible to run out of space, but only if you're carting the equivalent of your local library around with you.I'm probably going to get a Kindle tomorrow but i'm torn between the paperwhite (£109), the Fire (£129) or the Fire HD (£159).

I keep books on my PC, copy them to the kindle to read (keeping a copy on the PC) and then just delete them when finished. However, once you have purchased them from Amazon, you can download them more than once, or at least, I have in the past.
If you're after internet connectivity as well, you'd be better with something like a galaxy tablet (Samsung) or, dare I say it, an iPad, and download the kindle App.
thanks, sounds like it's the paperwhite i'm after. it has a backlight BUT doesn't emit light OUT, it sends it TO the back of the device so doesn't strain the eyes at all.
Is it possible to arrange the books in folders? for example you might want to set up folders according to Author and then in there have the books under those authors, instead of just a list of all the books? or whatever you'd like?
thanks chaps.

I don't think the Kindle Fire/HD have the e-ink displays so it'll be like staring at a computer screen trying to read, they're more of a tablet for internet browsing, Facebook, watching films, etc. I haven't seen the paperwhite screen, but the normal Kindles are just like reading a page of a book and produce no light.
Yes, you can delete books and reload them if you download them from Amazon, if you download them from other places you just download the file to your computer so you can copy it from your computer to your Kindle whenever you want.

The Fire and the Fire HD have WiFi and proper browsers as well as the Samsung and iPad.
I know, but personally, if that's what I wanted (Internet access/facebook and all that ste) I think that one of the pads is a better bet, didn't mean to sound like I was knocking the Kindle products.Jazoli said:
There is a brilliant free bit of ebook management software called Calibre, it makes managing and arranging books on your device easy, you don't have to be buy them all from Amazon
had a look at this and downloaded it as i have the amazon kindle app on my samsung galaxy S3 but (using linux) it recognized my device but not any of the Ebooks i had on there.....oddly/annoyingly!E38Ross said:

I've had the original kindle with the keyboard for years - it's taken all kinds of abuse and is still going strong.
Having said that, I've just got myself a Kindle Fire HD too and am loving that also. Battery life isn't as good as the standard e-reader, but as a cheap tablet it is very slick. The HD is also lighter and more comfortable in the hand than the standard Fire. Whether I get rid of the boggo kindle, I've not decided yet. But having the books on both devices I will say that I've only used the HD since I've had it. The backlight settings let you dim the levels down to largely replicate the appearance of the paperwhite background on the boggo reader. Not quite the same, but not as harsh as you'd expect either.

I've got vouchers for waterstone's , so I've been toying with the idea of getting a fire hd.
Can I transfer films from my pc onto it or can I only view films via love film?
Do people find the fire hd any good for reading or is the original kindle better?
In answer to your second question... No, the fire is not as good as a kindle for reading. Can I transfer films from my pc onto it or can I only view films via love film?

I have an iPad with retina display (considerably better screen than the firehd?) and I would not consider reading on it as I own a kindle paperwhite (recent upgrade from kindle4). Nothing can beat a proper Eink display for reading. The fire is just another tablet with a backlit LCD screen behind glass.
A friend has one and put an anti glare screen protector on it "to make it better than the kindle Eink". He failed and ended up buying a paperwhite after seeing mine.
