My Chimaera is now fully decatted and has a semi-sleeved box so we tried out an iphone app reading about a metre away at 45 degrees off the corner of the car.
I got 104.8

Are these apps accurate?

That's because my engine is smoother than a babys bottom (up for sale btw)

Also I found my car seems to get quieter from 2.5k-4k rpm

Edit- no cats but silencer in place

With twin exhausts most circuits will test in the middle, not at 45°.

Nokia app maxes at 100db's, and i hope it is very inaccurate because it was maxed on tick over!!!!

Which app did you use? It would be interesting to try it at S-club this weekend

My SPL Iphone app goes up to 120db afaik. It needs to be calibrated to ensure it is accurate though.

Could you check? I'd be both surprised and interested if that was true. Mine's an iPhone 3G and definitely only goes to 105db. Do you have a later phone with a better mic?

I don't know how to check without shouting at it...! It has a range adjustment that goes to 120.
