Sky Anytime Plus service - forcing change of Broadband
Discussion
Sky recently offerred me a free HD box upgrade, so that I could recieve Anytime plus - on demand service.
However, this 'free' service is only available if you are a Sky broadband user, thus forcing you to change broadband companies to continue using Anytime on your Sky box.
I'm not very happy about this as Sky Broadband has a very poor reputation, and I'm guessing its also rather a poor tactic for migrating users from competitors.
Are Sky really allowed to do this kind of thing, I'm guessing the monopolies commision would have been interested inthis kind of market manipulation?

I do not see the problem, Sky anytime does not require a broadband connection, but if you intend to use sky anytime plus you do need to use the sky broadband, the difference being sky anytime plus downloads the programs you select to your hard drive and it is free if you have the movie package and the broadband internet.
I have had skybroad band for 2 years and never had a single problem and I have very good download speeds.
And to be completly honest, sky anytime plus is not that great they show nothing in advance and the selection of movies/entertainment is not that good, the ones worth watching are either on sky every night or already on anytime.you also have the same content for a month. By not having it, your not missing out on anything really.

The only prob I have had with sky BB is the router sucks and they dont let you use your own.....so you buy a home plug wireless unit and run it into that.
You can use your own. I use my own router. If you google it, there is a website that shows you how to generate the user/pass that the SKY router uses.
https://www.cm9.net/skypass/
That website will generate your password so you can use your own router on SKY BB.

You can continue to receive the Anytime stuff, just not the Anytime+ stuff. However, this 'free' service is only available if you are a Sky broadband user, thus forcing you to change broadband companies to continue using Anytime on your Sky box.

Not getting qany 'normal' anytime content, only and empty 'anytime plus' selection.....
So upgraded to no content...
Upgrade was 'sold' to me as a 'theres absolutly no catch, free upgrade'.
Anytime stuff will take a few day to populate as it is downloaded to the box overnight if it has a spare tuner. So upgraded to no content...

I thought it was 'advertised' in anytime plus, so you could choose to initiate an on demand download?.Anyway, mine doesnt work because I dont have Sky broadband anyway.....
but then again, surely, any broadband 'should' work, tying it to Sky broadband just forces you to change suppliers (and in my case, telephone line supplier as well....)
Financially, I'll be better off, once its complete. I just hope the broadband works properly....

Anything in the "showcase" tab is the current anytime content. Other tabs are the downloadable content. Iirc the reason you need sky broadband is for quality of service control.Anyway, mine doesnt work because I dont have Sky broadband anyway.....

They called me a week ago to offer me a new HD box F.O.C. What's the catch? Nothing. You have a Thomson box and it's not compatible with our new products like Anytime. So, you'll give me a new HD box for nothing? Yes. And so they did. Supplied and fitted on Sunday in 10 minutes and still have my Thomson box. New one is smaller has 250GB for personal use, hasn't crashed and seems to offer better picture quality. No pressure on me to sign to Sky broadband

Same as "BT Vision" you have to have the ADSL, I think this is something to do with the way they prioritise the traffic on the network. However, this 'free' service is only available if you are a Sky broadband user, thus forcing you to change broadband companies to continue using Anytime on your Sky box.
