The real problem with getting non medical companies (or anyone) to make medical equipment is ensuring the material is the correct specification and safe to use, not contaminated etc. That it can be easily cleaned/dissinfected, non porous etc.

Designing/creating something new or with a new/different process for such a purpose means that it should go through months and months of testing and evaluation. And rightly so.

_Rich_ do you think it's possible to get good results from a Prusa MK3S when using an appropriate filament like nylon?
I honestly don't know. The printers I and others doing this are high end printers (thats not to willy wave its just what it is), so the one i use cost roughly 14k others i've seen you can only lease which cost similar per month (search for carbon printers). Other considerations are post cleaning and post curing (with a nitrogen gas)again more cost.

Completely agree. We work in the dental industry, we usually print digital models (from intra oral scans showing your mouth). Also retainers, dentures and temporary crowns/bridge work can all now be printed. It genuinely is an exciting time in the dental world with the digital aspect. The resins we use are of high quality and approved to be used intraorally. The guys running this project are in contact with the right people to offer our services and make sure what we use is good enough.

If anyone's looking for a printer at the moment, I noticed that tomtop have CR10s at $320 in stock at the German warehouse with UK plug.

Not affilliated in anyway, just a decent price:

This may be of interest to some on here. It's a group of 3d printer owners across the country who are printing headbands to produce face visors. I'm starting mine first thing in the morning using my Anycubic i3 Mega printer. Having to print using PLA as I don't have any PETG but it should be acceptable according to the readme.

I’ve been doing a similar thing after seeing an appeal for printed visor frames from a local doctor. Some of the F1 teams are helping with collection, assembly and distribution. I had my first batch collected yesterday and hope to have a lot more for them on Monday.

Nice, they look a lot quicker to print than the Prusa ones (taking me 2 hours each set). I don't have any elastic or any clear polypropylene to make a full mask so having to make do with printing the Prusa frames and shipping to Sheffield for assembly.

The frames are about 50 minutes a time, not awful. They seem to be assembling and distributing them quickly, which is nice to see...

Another batch went to a doctor who’s distributing around Oxford and Southampton.

I'm surprised not more of you are knocking these out and handing them over to front line workers. I've been on the case for a few weeks now.

If anyone wants STL. files and schematic for acetate sheet please email me. I can't get these out quick enough and people are begging me for them!

I have supplied them to the local undertakers and a local hospice.

I managed 65 in my latest batch. I’ve done 125 in total. As a small group we’re up to 1383. All distributed to local surgeries, hospitals, care homes and hospices, still plenty of demand.

Hello 3D printing type people. smile

I'm trying to get a replacement kettle lid printed from my design - see the details in my thread here.

Any advice on suitable materials that will withstand steam and heat that can be printed cost effectively? I only need one, so I guess I'm looking for home/maker lab type printers to do the job.

PAHT would be your best bet, if the printer can handle it.

I have seen some ads for 3d printing using Carbon fibre, what is the minimum printer I can get away with? Thanks

Carbon fibre infused PLA? It weakens the plastic, according to the tests that I have watched. And it shreds your nozzles. It is a gimmick.

Here's a technical review of CF filament - strength is only ok compared to more widely available filaments.

FDM printed parts will not come anywhere near laminated CF parts.

There is an alternative though:

At roughly 15 times the cost.

Have been looking at acquiring a 3D printer (am a complete novice) and am considering one of these so please keep us posted as to how you get on.

I bought a lightly used but upgraded pro from thebox.co.uk and they delivered it quickly. I’d recommend getting one which hasn’t been upgraded as I’ve got a whole host to learn now, but so far so good!
