Exporting second hand machine to Germany, no EORI number

Hi, we are a small UK manufacturer and we are selling an old second hand agricultural machine to Germany for £12,000. The customer is just a small farmer so doesn't have an EORI number.

We normally use a shipper, but not having an EORI number might cause customs problems? Or maybe not because it's secondhand? Best way of doing this?

As far as i know you won't be able to ship it without one, also make sure you are selling Ex Works and declare that on the invoice so there is no confusion on who is paying the duty & VAT. If the shipper wants you to sign any sort of document with wording alluding to 'right of attorney' or 'letter of indemnity' tell them to FRO - this basically gives them the right to charge you the costs of any foul up, hold up or buyer refusing to pay the duty etc. sign that and you've just agreed to pay for them (a lot of shippers are really sneaky and try and slip it through as 'just a simple little form to sign'. I use MIES in Castle Donnigton to get the EX1 which enables the transport company to get the T1 so they can proceed onto the continent, they charge £45
