starting a business
Discussion
right... this is the situtation i find myself in (i'm not expecting much sympathy, but comments and suggestions are welcome).
i am 32, have been working in IT sales for the last 10 years or so. in that time i have amassed net savings (property, shares etc) of some £600k.
i have a house with a 50% mortgage.
i am sick to death of the boring working life (in IT)i lead of mind numming nonsense that is sucking all the life away from me, being at the mercy of allegedly more senior people who IMHO are working several levels higher than their capabilty.
with the sort of money i have behind me, i should be able to do anything, start anything and have a great business that i run, manage and enjoy. the problem is my brain aches so much now that i cannot think of anything. my spirit has been completely drained by my employers and i feel i am an empty shell.
PLEASE can someone come up with ideas suggestions of what i should do? also are there other serious budding entrepreneurs out there who have cash and are looking to start up a business? perhaps there is a venture that could be looked at?
my interests are automotive, property and IT (not neccessarily in that order). therefore something in these areas are of some attraction.
cheers...

Take a sabbatical and live off capital for a few moths and see how you go.
Take the time to decide what you really want out of life and what you want to do for a job.
If all else fails, go back into IT as a contractor. You don't have to take half the corporate cack that employees do, although it does have it's own downsides of course.

Hi, wow, sorry to hear you lot are cheesed off with work, still, who wants to go anyway???
I escaped the rat race 3 years ago now, check my profile for more info.
Hope everyone finds a solution
Hmmm, checked the web site - didn't make much sense though. Just lots of people advocating doing what they do, which isn't explained anywhere...

Its not supposed to, like all psuedo Pyramid schemes, they never do.
From reading between the lines, its looks like an Amway Style operation.. coulped with one of those For £250 I will tell you how to get rich........ and the answer, to charge people £250 to tell them how to get rich :|
what makes me laugh is this..

She spoke to her local Distributor, Sara; about the opportunity as she thought only one Distributor could work in each area. When Julie saw that this was not the case she joined with her sponsor, Sara.
So, be safe in the knowledge that your 'supplier' respects your business so much, that as soon as some other 'punter' comes along with some cash, they will sell you out and bring in some local competition
.tk always rings warning bells, there is a reason its listed on most spam filters, just like .biz..
for the sake of a few quid, a REAL domain would add a hint of legitimacy to this.
Anyway back to the ratrace for me
Hi everyone,
No, not an outlawed pyramid or any cash up front, that's not nice or allowed. Still, some are looking for more some are not, it's up to you but this bought my TVR, and two other cars so there's some proof it works.
Interesting though about.tk Jamie, is this because you have something to do with selling domain names yourself??
I'm only telling you what I do, you clicked the links.

Simon,
the world and their dog sells domain names,
what has .tk got to do with a UK Business?
Its a free domain, which instantly gives the impression that you dont care enough to BUY a real domain, which would require you to REGISTER your details.
.tk tends to be used by spammers, as they are free, easily obtainable and untracable.
There is no LEGITIMATE reason for anyone to use a .tk other than its free.

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for your reply.
I appreciate your comment, however my other address is a registered domain and supplied at the time of having my first website built. It is used solely for my business newspaper advertising.
All .tk is about is testing the water for anyone who wants to see a little more and is a new idea for me to do this, which is successful, basically it removes the professional browsers. Most people would not delv that far as to what the domain means but purely to see if there is something there for themselves. Surprising how many PH'ers have completed the response form for more info. Anyway, thanks for your input, it is appreciated and your website looks great! best of luck in your business Jamie, I'll carry on with mine.

Back on thread...
If you are overworked then take a week's holiday, tell everyone at work you're going to Mexico or something so they don't call you at all, then spend time at home and use that time to think of what you could be doing instead of working in your current position. (and resist the temptation to start doing the DIY etc)

A good way is to wait until you're in a lucid frame of mind, get a bit of paper and draw up two lists.
List One is all the things you *don't* like about your job.
List Two is all the thing you *do* like about your job.
Then all you have to do is think of something which avoids all the things on List One and majors on those in List Two.
We'll deal with the next stage afterwards!
