Which field?
Health and Safety covers sooo many things, it would be handy to know what you are looking for.
I'll echo the above. Alot will depend on industry / specialism, I manage H&S in the retail / warehousing arena if thats of any relevance.Health and Safety covers sooo many things, it would be handy to know what you are looking for.
RE: qualifications, there are some underpinning course etc but again, exactly what to look for will depend on the industry really!
Thanks for the replies. I am asking to find out what I need to do to get started in it over here and if I need to do a qualification first or I I would get training on the job etc.
I was going to start work in the industry in sydney but I'm not sure about how to go about it in Scotland.
My background is in construction (13 years) where I was responsible for that side of thing within my business but I have no formal H&S qualification for the UK. Only a 5 day course in Australia.
Any advice?

I work in H&S so will try and help you.
The main base and recognised qualification is the Nebosh General Certificate or the Nebosh Construction Certificate depending on what area you want to go into.
You can then expand this with either the Nebosh Diploma or the NVQ route depending what route of study you prefer. You can then take numerous training and qualifications after this depending what industry you work or want to work in.
Some of the qualifications are not that easy and the examination boards do make things awkward.
Sadly as with a lot of industries its a chicken and egg situation with getting jobs. No H&S job without the experience and no experience without a job. It maybe easier for you to apply your trade here first and come into H&S that way.
If you need any more info just ask

Thanks for the responses. I do have some experience in Australia as I was responsible for the OH&S in our small building business which my father and I ran for a long time. I have completed an OH&S course which was 5 days long and gave me a "Green Card".
Would this be enough to get in the door? Should I do a NEBOSH course first then look for work or do you think I could get a job then get more qualified?
Which course would I need to do?
I know there are a lot of sectors I could go for, any suggestions? Are some harder to get into than others especially since I don't have a degree or diploma?
What is the pay like in this country?
