I don't suppose anyone on here has been through a similar process? If so, I may have a few questions.....

Indeed! Although they specialise in lo-fi for the masses to be honest, lol.

I had a think about this but decided against it in the end. If you are interested in the franchise method a company called Sevenoaks may be worth looking at.

Hope there will be a PH discount. I'm a poor student but with expensive taste.

Good luck Roadrunner.

I recently looked at importing US high end gear, Lexicon, Krell, ML etc.....but the red tape started to get me down.

Might look at a UK outlet sometime later in the year as my area (BEDSBUCKS) if very poorly serviced for audiophile kit with decent demohome eval facilities

Forget it.

The market's shagged.

If you can't inherit a pile or exist in the modus playboyatum c/o a beneficial patriarch, then consider white collar crime of some descript or the only slightly-less frowned upon, somehow legal pursuit of bar membership.

DER - Staring at my Reuters price feed i would be inclined to agree with you, BUT there's always cash for the finer things in life, it's the proles that suffer

I would imagine that most high-end audio buyers would know their stuff and shop around for the best deal. Therefore unless you really have amazing prices its going to be hard without stocking the bread and butter cheaper stuff.

However, if you're any good at instalation then maybe that could be a better market. There are thousands of uber-wealthy people who have nice hifis but know sweet all about them. If you could provide a full service of supply and installation with good customer care and service then you'd be on to a winner i think.

Roadrunner - which town/city are you planning on setting up in? What's the local competition like?

I'm fairly open minded to the location, although initially I had intended the south east. Having said that, I am selling up at the moment, so I can relocate anywhere this summer. At this very early stage all I'm doing is weighing up the whole idea.

Tweeking hifi is something I'd be doing in my spare time anyway, so I would'nt say no to getting paid for it. I'd be fairly content with a cup of coffee, relaxed atmosphere and some quality tunes. Would beat commuting to london in the pissing rain every day! Hence, this is my last summer in the city.

If anyone out there is in a similar position and might fancy a partnership or extra investment, drop me a line. I'm off to Egypt for a couple of weeks now though, so see you soon.

(P.S Anyone want a total spec 111R for a bargain later this summer? It's not much of a Wilson lugger, lol!)

Roadrunner: find yourself a good quality audio dealer and put your trust in them. Tell them your budget and other factors eg size/shape of room plus listening tastes. Book an appointment, be prepared to listen to kit for a couple of hours and take half a dozen of your favourite CDs along. And stick to your budget.

You might be amazed at how different some setups ca sound (although you might not!).
