Hi
I am currently studying Law at Essex University and I am in my first year. I live in Kent (Near Brands Hatch). I have noticed there are a number of lawyers on PH and would like to know if anyone would be able to give me summer work so I can gain much needed experience. I am available from the 25th June and would be happy to work for a number of weeks. I can easily get to London via. Black Friars and anywhere in the west of Kent e.g. Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Rochester.
Thank you
Simon

Nepotism tends to operate here, not ability. Volunteer for CAB or a law centre - no wages but easier to get and looks FAR better on a CV.

By CAB do you mean the Citizen Advice Bureaux. I had not thought of that. What sort of work will they have me do? What is a law centre? It is quite annoying that firms will take A-level students but not first year law students. They seem to rarely read letters or emails and just tell you to apply in your second year but when I come to do that they will ask if I have any experience.
Thanks bob.

I think I'm better, but not so good for the last few days. Yeah, I'm doing Law in Action, also probably doing Essex Streetlaw too.

I will see you tonight then for the talk. I'm doing witness help volunteering. I heard someone talking about your car a while ago. Said she thought you were going fast but apparently was your exhaust.

A Barrister about the bar.
I'm not going now as don't want to be a barrister and already been to one with Judge talking about being a barrister.

Yes that's CAB. LAw centres exist in some areas focussing on legal issues, usually a paid solicitor and team of volunteers. Good for getting some legal experience, but mainly developing people skills. Queries tend to be of the nature "Have I got a case ?" tripping and slipping, consumer protection, basic criminal procedure.

Thank you for your help. I will look for my nearest law centre. What do you specialise in?

Hi

I'm in need of a summer vacation placement. I have tried all the previous suggestions, which were helpful but unsuccessful. Is anyone able to help? I'm able to get to most places in South London, Kent and the Colchester area of Essex.

Thank you
Simon
