A friend of mine is toying with the idea of a new business venture.

As part of this, he would need to produce a vast number of photocard I.Ds. Can these be produced if passport photos were sent to him? If so, what equiptment would be needed and what is the processes?

Does anyone know of places that would supply the nesscessary equiptment and an idea of overheads - i.e. equiptment and blank plastic cards etc.?

reading this back, it does sound like he is setting up one of those "fake id - novelty purposes only" things! He isnt, the photocards are just one part of the venture.

Thanks guys.

I'd print the person's photo passport-size onto suitable paper, cut it out, stick it onto whatever backing card you want, then encapsulate it. You can get little encapsulators in Staples for not much £.

Is it that easy or have I missed something?

Too labour intensive, he needs to do thousands of them.

He was thinking of a machine like the DVLA have (but on a smaller scale) that prints all the info onto the actual plastic.

Just done a membership project.

A card printer is a couple of grand. Do a search on Eltron. Ribbons were a couple of quid
We were using preprinted cards with a magnetic swipe and a sequential number both printed and encoded and worked out at about 30p a card delivered to office but we are talking about 20 thousand cards in an order
We were using bespoke software which would take an image from a twain compatible device. In our case we used web cams on POS counters and a scanner for postal applications.

Hope this helps

Would expect the equipment to do it himself would be extremely expensive and therefore would probably be better off outsourcing it.

Just a thought.

If you can provide a database with the persons details and digital image we can sort this for you. Just a simple merge and output. By high volume what do you mean?
