A seedling .com with great potential is in need of a hands on Technical Cornerstone to get involved in the early stages of this companies life.
You will London / Essex based, with 5 years + commercial experience of Website development and support ideally including VB, ASP.Net, Java, Access, Sql Server, firewalls, Linux.
You will have project management experience and experience in working within start up / SMEs. You will be a self starter and happy working on your own or as part of a small team.
This is a real opportunity to get involved in a very exciting project in the very early stages and make a real difference.
Please message me if you are interested in finding out more.

Always interested in new ventures... but a technical director... wont code..

Coders code. directors direct.

You may find some directors who came from a coding background... but I doubt they will be current.. more likely you will get a coder who can code very well.. but whom wouldnt be ideal Director Material.. in the strictest sense..

Tho... what do I know

GL, and no disrespect to any coder/directors

Not only that, but I've come across very few people who do "firewalls, Linux" that also do "VB, ASP.Net, Java, Access, Sql Server".

Diametrically opposed technical camps, sorta, and I can count the number of people I've met who do both on the fingers of one foot.

Me too. I suspect that Sam will find that the entrepreneur techos that the start-up would really want are already largely in ... start-ups!

Might need to give someone the chance to prove they have what it takes...

I take it they are offering no salary, a decent stake in the business and a life of risk, excitement and poverty for a couple of years? I do hope so...

Yep I agree. Too many hats for one head if you are looking for a hands on person. However if anyone is looking for an IT Manager/Director then let me know as I am looking. However I'm not back in the UK until Feb!

Note to self... Stop going to the beach every day and do CV.

You are all right as always. The VB, .Net stuff does not really go with the Linux but the Linux know how does not have to be in depth.
The role is for a developer who will also be the IT director. They will code in the first instance as the company grows they will become slightly less hands on.
Within a start up everyone generally does everything they can. There is no room for an IT director who simply directs just yet, but give it time

There is a CLR coming for Linux so .NET will run equally well on Windows or Linux in theory anyway.

Shame I cant code in those languages as this is just the sort of gig I am looking for...

This is exactly how I started out with my business 3 years ago, and I think in a startup the 'technical director' ends up sorting out everything technical .. from programming SQL, HTML, firewalls, servers and scripts to fixing PC's, telephones and changing lightbulbs

When the company gets bigger and can afford more staff, and it took us over a year, then you can get picky about when you 'code' and when someone does it for you! (I still change lightbulbs though)

If circumstances were different for me I'd love to get involved .. but no time sadly. However I'm sure the person you want is out there, somewhere ..
