Just heard tonight that one of our biggest customers has gone POP.

He really can not understand how angry this has made me.

I'm pretty sure we can survive. We'll just have to get the nose to the grindstone and work our way through the problems! Works out, the equivelent of us working for 3-months, and then not getting paid!

W@NKER, FCUKING W@ANKER!

One very pi$$ed off small business owner.

My sympathies, I also have a small business and one bad client could sink me. Fortunately it is customary in my line of work to have quite a lot of the money upfront. Presumably that wasn't possible with your client?

Can only sympathise! My Bast@rd client sent me bust 11 years ago.

What really gets me is that afterwards, it's as if you are the guilty party with the bank and anyone else without a clue saying things like "well, did you do a credit check on them, did you get a purcahse order,......" to which the reply should be ..."did YOU ever run a small business?...no! then shut the F*** up!"

Best of luck mate - don't let the bastards wear you down!

Now that is fooking spooky ..... I spoke to our new 'Business Adviser' today, just to explain what had happened. Out of politeness as much as anything. Just in case we need some kind of temporary O/D.

Whats the first thing she says ..... "We can sell you a very good range of credit checking services."

A bloody good job ot was over the phone. Something would have been inserted somewhere had it been face-to-face.

OI, YOU WHO HAS NEVER RUN A BUSINESS. SHUT THE FCUK UP!

Nearly made me more angry than the previous days news.

Ultimapaul, I presume you are saying that even credit checking services could not have prevented the loss you have experienced?
What actually happened? Did the customer actively conceal his situation from you or did the failure happen suddenly?

Condolences mate, I've posted on here numerous times about debt collection for similar reasons and I know exactly how you feel.

Thanks for the words of support. I've calmed down some what now. A creditors meeting has been arranged. I have many questions to ask as you can imagine.

No, I don't believe a credit check would have saved the day IMHO. As I see it at the moment, the guy just ran this project poorly and allowed us to take the hammering for it.
Like I said many questions to be asked. I'll report back when the meeting has taken place. If you want?

Paul.

What really pisses me off is when they do this, fold and then set up again with an ever so slightly different name.

You have my deepest sympathies mate. Hope you manage to get through this.

You have my most profound sympathies too, Paul.

Being in business with Squeezer von Braun in Numero Onze is slightly less preferable than submitting one's J.Thomas to the meat grinder in Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' video.

I am seriously considering a gentle change in business trajectory to something involving torches and co-workers with a pronounced Manco-Liverpudlian inflexion.

Again, sympathies mate.. the only reason I didn't go under a few years ago when a customer went bang was about 2 weeks beforehand, I got a tip off from one of their friendly execs and we made sure we got the bulk of our cash immediately.

It resulted in them owing us £500 not £36, 500.

Being self-employed can really suck at times, best of luck with working through it..

Martin.

We had the creditors meeting today for this sad state of affairs. What a complete tw@t.
Turns out as suspected, the job we were on was the only works he had. At no time did he look at the costs he was accruing compared to the value of the works.
He kept no contemperanius notes recording stoppages, variations and disruption due to others not completing works.
He sat there, he had no note book, no job file and no records from the business.

Although we are not likely to see any further monies, the pleasure gained from watching him squirm in front of the liquidators reps, does go a little way to ease the pain. He did take one hell of a verbal onslaught.

Likely outcome. Due to the relativly small total debt (circa £60k) then probably no further action other than disqualification (not guarenteed). I just hope that failiures like him carry on in life being just that, only without effecting other people along the way.

As Clarkson would say .... LOOOOOOOSER ........

Makes me feel better anyhow!

Paul.

Edited - I've just seen the smilie and thought it perfect!

Once the adrenalin subsides, the brain cells start working again. A quote from one of my former directors: 'Don't get mad, get even.' Order £60K of stuff from him in a few years, under an assumed name, then don't pay for it...
