How can i promote this event? HELP, ADVICE...

Am hosting a Black tie formal event in May 09 and was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best way to sell tickets?
Its a new company and at the moment its just been through word of mouth, we have a website too.
i've just had posters/flyers printed for the event, and am currently writing to the newspapers to let them know about this exciting new dance event.
However am i missing something? is there more i can do to sell tickets and promote this event? am new at all this you see so advice etc would be very helpful to me right now.

Marketing any event - or anything come to that - requires a degree of focus on your core target audience rather than the blunderbuss approach.
If you were selling something aimed at mums, then being around supermarkets and schools (for example), might be appropriate.
'A black tie event' is a bit of a broad description to be able to offer any meaningful advice.
