I've been thinking about this idea for a little while and want to try and sound out others who potentially would be interested and get some opinions.

In the past I've done things like take a dozen or so good clients to the races or one year had a box at Brands for the superbikes but these are all a bit boring and drab. I estimate I've probably got 6 key people who work for clients and between them equate to about 70% of my companies turnover. Now days even bottles of scotch at christmas are frowned on by some firms, but there never seems to be a problem for them to take a days holiday and go on a beano.

What I'm considering is getting togeather with maybe half a dozen other small/medium company owners/partners in the South East who are in a similar position as far as clients are concerned and who personally own "nice" cars which they aren't afraid to share. The idea would then be to block book a good well organised local track day at either Brands or Snetterton (either Evo/book a track seem slick operations) but book all six cars in all groups so effectively an open pit lane day. Each owner would have an allowance of say six guests and these guests would be free to swap and change amongst all the cars in the pool so that hopefully by the end of the day everyone would have got to have had a drive in everything. I would suggest that the owner might feel better if they were the passenger in their own car and maybe hire some intercoms and extra helmets etc. Possibly get some caterers for a spread at lunch time and try to work it as a kind of laid back informal fun day away from the strict organisation of normal corporate do's.

The draw backs I can see would be obviously if someone crashes and costs money we would either need a lot of trust between owners as to the type of people they were inviting and an oh well shit happens attitude , or each get insurance for the day, some of the risk would be minimised by having the owner in the passenger seat almost as an instructor but as always there would be risk, also if a client got hurt so maybe some disclaimers would be needed (any legals care to offer an opinion??)

It would be nice to have a spread of marques in the pot I'd throw in my Griff 500, I also have a Radical SR3 owner who's up for it, and possibles for a 355 and a 911 turbo

Any Ideas ??????

a) insurance?

b) you can't offset the cost against your business profits for tax purposes.

This of course assumes all your clients are as into cars as you are!

There are companies that provide this service with their own cars and so gets over the damage/insurance issue.

There's also a club (I think it's the Classic Car Club) which run days whereby groups of 12 or 16 drivers drive in classics (Astons, Ferraris, Lotus, etc) but have to find clues over a given route (Treasure Hunt Stylie!) - usually nice open country roads.

Also worth checking out some of the driving days at Brands, Snetterton and the like. We're thinking of doing one in a few weeks - Audi TTs, Ferrari 355, Quad Bikes, Rallycar, FPA car and a Helicopter ride - all in a day - £180 per person! (they are desperate to sell these "days" these by the way!!)

We've also found that an exclusive go-kart enduro goes down well too. I'd recommend Thurrock or Buckmore for this.

Hi Mel

We are doing a couple of days like this for a few people already.
As somebody mentioned you need Insurance to run days like this + ARDS Instructors.
Speak to Graeme@TrackAction

www.track-action.co.uk

Mention me as Dale he will look after you.
+ they already have a load of racecars for hire with Instructors if you need them.

I concur with the idea about track action.
I know Graham very well and Instruct on his days occasionally.
You can offer a more extended package by offering them a Performance driving Tuition day.

This is where they not only have fun in their cars on circuit but actually spend some classroom time and also time learning car control in say a Catrerham or similar.
This is less an 'off the shelf package'
But can be made more 'bespoke' to your people and in my view offers them a greater sense of achievement as they do learn more as enthusiastic drivers.
