Daniel Silverman, anybody heard of them? Anbody used them?
They want some cash up front then they will collect on some money owed. Is this normal practice or am I about to get fleeced?

Advice greatfuly received.

The debt collectors we use simply add their costs to the amount they are chasing and recover it from the errant customer. We get full payment, they get their fee. We have never been asked for any money up front. I would be highly suspicious.

General rule is for it to work as RUF 3 has outlined...

Told them I didn't want to pay an up front fee today and they got very pissy. Said the fee was an indemnaty (sic) against any legal fees they would incur if they were unsuccessful in pursuing litigation. I said I would think about it. I will go elsewhere I think.

Don't forget you can serve a summons on line now - www.courtservice.co.uk (I think!). Takes 10mins and you pay by c/card.
