I know someone who is seriously thinking of downloading a of the free porn available on the net (so I am told) then sticking it up on a self made site and changing via CC for access.

I have told him this is probably not entirly legal but I know the porn industry is not well regulated.

Does anyone have any expereince of this (post under an alias if you must or email samn@opportune-it.com)

Thanks
Sam

He won't make a penny. Why would anyone visit his rather than one of the other tens of thousands of sites?

He won't make a penny and might even earn himself an unpleasant visit from either the long arm of the law or, worse, some of the people whose "copyright" he has violated.

I suspect the people who make money (for ANY kind of web-site OK )are those who

1) Offer original content
2) Create a "community" with "membership"

Look at PH! I know that many porno equivalents of PH exist - but I don't know anything about them...

Your mate (ahem) could do with doing some extensive research into how to actually make any cash without incurring the wrath of the "professionals" as it were.

Personally I'd steer very well clear of such an enterprise...

I seriously advise your friend no to do this.

The community is very tight knit and he WILL be found out very soon.

You also need to realise that while a lot of these companys are small, most of the content you see on the internet is licenced from a fairly small number of larger companys who have teams of lawyers dedicated to people like your friend. He will be shut down and have the law after him before long (and will end up fed, excuse any porno puns)

Even if he manages to avoid this (which is unlikely) as I said the community is tight knit, once it gets out he's using unlicenced content then he will be kicked off his hosting service (if his using an adult host, they won't risk annoying a customer who's been pissed about) and lose his card processor (again they won't hesitate to do it, he may lose all the money int he account as well for breaking T's and C's)

Oh and of course theres the way that the advertising works, affiliate schemes from the smaller, free gallerys and TGP's, none of which will touch a scammer.

As if that isn't enough, people won't pay for what they can get elsewhere for free he can expect to see a lot of charge backs on his customers cards.

So put simple don't do it.

If he really wants to get into the industry theres ways in which require not much capital (AVS for example)

He might like to check out www.gof kyourself.com, its simular to PH, except instead of cars its based around the industry.

As I understand it, it's also a community that one would do rather well to avoid.

Also, if you - sorry, your friend - is setting up credit card facilities, it is very easy to be tracked down.

Business Link is unlikely to provide advice, so you'll be on your own.

And without appearing to be mightier than thou or anything, your freind will need to consider the moral aspect. There's a heap of difference between having an occassional crafty look and actually perpetuating its existance. Does he have a daughter??
