I have seen lots of manuals/publication offering advice on setting up as a freelance courier.

www.drive4money.co.uk
www.drive2success.co.uk
www.postalandcourier.com

Does anybody know if their earning claims are true?

Hi R18,
I don't speak from experience you understand, but anything advertised on motorway roundabouts as a way of boosting your income and putting you a half inch nearer that speedboat/villa should be viewed with some caution, but good luck anyway, if you do go in for a logistics type thing, look very carefully at your chosen postcode-patch, and go and sit in it for a day and count the other guys tearing about in vans full of parcells, then decide if its covered adequately enough
cheers Rich

Before you make any decisions check out the affect it will have on your insurance. I worked for an insurance company albeit on the marketing side, but I know they wouldn't touch couriers with a barge pole and the ones that do have the market cornered and are extortionate!

Additional insurance can be taken out with any decent broker, try back of autotrader,
ask for; Goods in transit cover, (typically £12, per Thousand pounds worth of cover required) this will be expected from any customer, on another note payment options to keep you going, should the franchise work be less than forthcoming, approach any parcel co, Parcel line/Tuffnells any really, for extra work based on payment by parcel, this can usually be paid out on a weekly basis to keep you in funds. hope this helps
