We sell online via different platforms and have for the last 14 years used Royal Mail.

However we have recently received a letter that our price will be increasing significantly which puts it way beyond what even a private individual can purchase from them for the same service.

Most of our items are sent 48 tracked small parcel which was costing £2.70 plus vat, surcharges and green fee etc. This came out on average about £3.80 which is about what it can be purchased online for.

The proposed new price is £4.26 plus all the bits which will make it way more per a item.

We sent 3314 items ytd with this service alone.

The account manager isn't interested in reducing prices and openly said buy them over the counter.

Has anyone had similar and any advice?

I don't ideally want to move to Evri but they are much cheaper.

I did move to Evri a couple of years ago and haven’t really looked back. At least £1 cheaper per item and similar losses. However, with the contract we were on with RM, we couldn’t claim for any losses. With Evri we can.

They undoubtably have a poorer reputation, but RM are really on the slide these days.

As well as this increase in costs, we have also received an general e-mail warning about use of excessive tape and the fine that comes with it.

£4+ VAT.

What this usually means is that staff at the sorting office will be instructed to be extremely pedantic and pull up anything that might have loose tape that could snag on something as it is basically a "nice little earner" for them.

Appreciate the above is slightly off topic, but thought i'd mention it so others know.

In defence of Evri, I think it is very regional. Our Evri driver has been doing the same route for 5 years; he’s a lovely guy. The prior one was terrible.

With the attitude of “go to the counter” I’d be inclined to email their CEO with the facts.

One thing I hate is entitled account managers who aren’t managing anything, they are just order takers in cases like this.

Absolutely. We went the opposite way in our village recently. The regular guy was an absolute star. He even answered delivery queries on Facebook. He left a few months ago and since then there has been a whole series of people doing it ranging from competent to terrible. None of them seem to last long though.

Can you just send a letter before action?

Or a short polite email to:

• CEO Office Email: ceo.office@royalmail.com
• Direct Executive Email: alistair.cochrane@royalmail.com

CEO inboxes are frequently triaged and redirected to senior customer services...

I send about 1,000 parcels a year with RM. Annoying to hear about another increase in prices. My most recent experience with them was three parcels posted on the 11th September (using the 48 Hour service) all arrived on Friday 25th.

The local Depot Manager advised me to ring Customer Services to request a refund. After 25 minutes on hold, I was told 'we don't offer refunds relating to the 24 or 48 Hour services'!

This is the compensation (i.e. none) I experienced with RM. I don’t know if the Tracked service does qualify as I’ve never had one go missing.

Poor in my experience. They don’t offer a service at all to NI. Scottish highlands and islands they charge more than RM tracked. Rural can often be patchy too with them not finding an address or saving stuff up over a few days until it’s worth their while going out there.
