Commercial retail premise
Discussion
Hi,
I have recently taken on the management of a small retail premise owned by members of my family that has been let to the same company now for a number of years. The lease is up for renewal this year and I admit to being completely out of my depth, with no idea on whether their proposal is reasonable, or if we are being rinsed - which it feels like.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience of being in this position and might have any thoughts, or can recommend a solicitor in this field.. For context the renewal in legal fees generally = a years rent.

You really need a local surveyor to advise on market rent and lease terms. Solicitors are good on the legal work but surveyors are better placed to advise on commercial issues like rent and lease terms.
I advise on roadside and automotive real estae, so petrol filling stations, car dealerships, car parks, motorway service areas, drive thrus and electric vehicle charging sites but not retail, I am afraid.
