Hi All,

As my business has expanded I find myself needing more support with things like payroll and Xero booking.

Has anyone tried one of these Agencies that supply full or part time workers for a fee of £500-£1000 per month for this type of work?

Help and advice much appreciated.

We had one for design and drawing work, quality of work excellent and really tried hard.
You will need to spend a bit of time mapping out every eventuality and what you want in each case as to be fair they will not go outside of any boundaries as I imagine they get blamed.
Towards the end of the project we needed them on UK time and again no problem, this was 2019, since communications have moved on, I’d do it straight away but only for things where there is a distinct cost saving due to comparative costs
We have 3 design engineers for a 4month project and I recall it was less than 25% of what we would have paid, okay I spent time on it but I would have done that anyway
I can’t think of the agency but in principle yes

I use a VA - and have used them for years - to support me with general admin, diary management, invoicing etc.

When I started using the concept I went off-shore (Dominican Republic) and whilst it worked well, the language barriers (albeit minor) and attention to detail in written prose were not quite where I needed her to be combined with the time differences.

In the end I brought it back to the UK about eight years ago and I’ve not looked back. They’re are thousands of VA’s in the UK. Note that I don’t pay a set fee per month. I’m on the clock in five-minute increments. If a job only takes ten minutes then I’m only paying for 10/60 and that’s it. The cost increase of bringing it back to the UK was, at best, negligible.

The beauty is, however, if I’m quiet for some reason, I don’t have the fixed overhead. I’m impressed with the concept. I wouldn’t change it.

We've got a few VA's that handle customer service and some general reconciliation on Xero for our e-commerce brands. I'd never bother using an agency as they'll be adding a decent markup on their end, plus, it's really quite easy finding them yourself on sites like Upwork. We pay between $10-$15 per hour and the work is spot on, always responsive and always happy to do more if needed.
