Is it just me or has LinkedIn become useless?

On more than one occasion over the last year, I've found people that I'd like to discuss bringing into projects but get no response.

I get a constant stream of emails and messages from people telling me how impressed they are with what I'm doing before trying to sell me something that I already do.

On the rare occasion I get a LinkedIn originated marketing message for something that I actually do need and reply, I get no response there either.

From what I can see, 95% of the posts people and companies make are entirely facile..... "what's your favourite biscuit for meetings?" was one that caught my eye recently (Chocolate Hob Nobs of course) or content that's aimed at impressing their mates or competitors or former employees.

Is it just me or am I using it wrong?

No, I find it quite useful. I constantly get interesting polls to see what my favorite SQL join is. I'm voting for LEFT JOIN this time.

The point? From my observations, it's a forum for recruiters to 'moan' about stories they've invented in their heads.

It's really handy for fledgling business owners inviting you to connect with them.

It does seem to now have morphed into something which is basically Facebook for recruitment consultants and willy-waving for 'entrepreneurs'

It's facebook for businesses, used primarily for virtue signalling some crap that no body cares about and increasingly by salesmen that couldn't get hold of me on my works number.

Also some bizarre posts like "Today I was digging in the garden and noticed a worm which reminded me of leadership and my struggle to bring a homogenised synergy of holistic processes to leverage the granular symbiosis of management engagement"

Little point that I can see, currently loads of recruiters stating that job hunters need to be treated with much more care and clarity by job providers, loads of stories about people going through 5 stage interviews and then ghosted, lots of 'true life' posts about people going to their boss and resigning with a script of what can they do to keep them, and as others have said lots of photos of jobs completed for private clients, that turned a 4 bedroom detached house into something close to Buckingham Palace in 4 months etc. Oh and the latest one apparently a PL footballer is looking for a chef for the festive period to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner from mid December until mid January, must be able to drive and commit to the hours required, £400 per day being offered?
Little point for connecting with business that I can see.

It was pretty mediocre before, but the addition of videos has just rendered it completely useless.

Quite a lot of god-bothering to swipe past, too.

I’ve given up on it as a colossal time-suck for no discernible return.

Horrific site.

UK vibe seems to be a bizarre and highly toxic mix of turning the very normal into something borderline criminal, and extreme right wing economics.

‘So today I was at my desk and my manager asked if I would like my usual flat white as she was going to Nero for a latte. We don’t have to put up with this crap. I am sick of being an order, being reduced to 250ml of milk, roasted beans and steam.

And how sickening is it that Labour are seizing everyone’s farms , shares and houses and just wasting the money on so called DE&I initiatives. No one ever taxed their way to growth. ‘

Sounds like you’re connected to the wrong people.

It’s great for keeping connected with people and making connections with other interesting people. If you’re looking for work, that becomes very valuable indeed.

I joined about ten years ago, within a week it had pulled through completely random connections even though I checked ‘no’ to access to my contacts… I was given some sort of ‘great sales skills’ tag by a guy I’d sold a car privately to about 5 years prior, so that was nice - I guess.

A couple of years later, I tried a covert account, different email address, not using my real name, no contacts allowed and it still linked me to people I didn’t want to find me laugh

I don’t mix business with pleasure, I don’t want my work life to know my home life and I don’t want people I may have met privately to know my work life. LinkedIn doesn’t allow for that, so I’m out.

I don't think I am.

I apply the same rule to LinkedIn as I do with other social media in that I only 'connect' with people I know, have physically met or have a genuine off line connection to.

It's good if you're a 'life coach' and want to shout out fictitional BS into an echo chamber.

I deleted my profile a couple of years ago as I was getting bombarded by recruiters or web designers. I’d been on there for years before and I don’t think it brought me any benefit whatsoever. The people I’d connected with I knew professionally anyway and the ones who contacted me always had something to sell.
