The chap who sometimes paints my cars has asked for some advice. My knowledge is a bit dated so I’m doing some research

Older chap, can just about switch on a laptop. Struggles with IT and has been trying to create an off invoice for 2 months.

I’m not really convinced I want to get involved and have asked him in the first instance to speak to his accountant and bookkeeper.

Any recommendations in particular? I used to use Xero, but worry it may be too complicated and see it’s getting expensive.

I don't think you'll get simpler than Xero but if you're not a user of tech then any software could be daunting. Sounds like he could do with an ad-hoc / part time book-keeper to take care of these bits that aren't in his wheelhouse. I've always worked on the premise that if I can earn more in the period of time it would take me to do a task by doing what I do well then that's better than attempting the task I don't have the skill or desire to do.

Garage Assistant is the usual go to for this sort of thing - https://www.sws-solutions.co.uk/software_products....

Lives locally, can be exported in most formats that accountants want (or at least can use as they'll all prefer Xero these days) and is a one time purchase.

Is built around Garage and similiar workshop type organisations general workflow.

Arguably simpler than Xero to a point, one of those being it does need some sort of backup option.
