Basic website and email - simple business
Discussion
Hi All,
I have a new business which doesn't really need a website other than a what we do/who we are. No functionality is needed. It's a professional service company where I don't anticipate ever attracting clients with a website rather than personal connections and face to face marketing. The website is really only to legitimise the business insofar as having a presence on the web.
I also will require an email address that isn't a gmail address, again for legitimacy. As a result of how the business will be structured, the email address used for the most part will be via another business so its largely redundant but I want a standalone one for various reasons later down the line. To give some explanation, the business will (hopefully) engage some clients that will then be serviced via a larger company for whom I will be retained as a consultant. By virtue of how the structure will work, the consultant business won't need much presence hence the requirements above. I would like it to remain standalone in case I uncouple from the larger company or expand and sell later down the line.
So a go daddy site or such like seems the easiest/quickest/most economic for an IT luddite such as myself. Before I sign up and design a v basic site/email as above, does anyone have any words of wisdom or alternatives (or screaming issues going down this route)?

Register domain £10
Buy hosting £100 max for decent one with adequate space
Do you have MS Office?
Holding page onto Hosting, basic wordpress template will suffice.
Set up Google Business and put phone number generic info@ and URL
No monthly fees and that will suffice

And my IT knowledge is so limited I wouldn't have a clue where to start with half of what you propose! (or which suppliers to buy them from!).
Appreciate the advice but imagine you are speaking to a child on this...in fact children will be far more proficient.
This is where the go daddy/Wix's of the world are appealing as seems child speak.
I'm by no means an expert, but have built 3 websites using Squarespace.
I think they are excellent for the money and even a novice can build a website in a morning.
You can then tweak it as you go along and get more experience.
Can also set up your email through them. Although I just use GoDaddy.
Think I pay less than £15 a month for each of my Websites.

I've used Names.co.uk to do exactly what you're looking. Highly recommended and they also offer a service where for a few hundred quid, they do it all for you: https://www.names.co.uk

There's a bunch of PHers - and doubtless loads of bods local to you (though you really don't need a local guy to do any of this) that can help with this sort of thing - myself included - It's straightforward.I have a new business which doesn't really need a website other than a what we do/who we are. Don't do it yourself, that's where I see loads of people take a wrong turning that then just causes issues when sorting out the hosting.
Get whoever sorts it to do both your domain & hosting. Anyone half decent will register the domain in your name so can't hold you to ransom with it. (Not seen that happen for years and then came across it again this last year. Cowboys...) Expect to pay upto £150ish for combined hosting & domain.
Email can either be hosted directly as mailboxes on the hosting platform or you might want to use Microsoft's Office365 offering to run the email side via Outlook.
Website, depends on just how much info you want on there and how much you can twist someone for mate's rates but without going too silly, you'd get a perfectly ok looking brochure site up for less than £1k although if you do want something a bit more informative then budget £2k-£3k - very much ballpark as I've no idea what you need but that should give you an idea.
Worth finding a local small biz IT Support bod who can help set up your machine with email configs and advise on backups, printer setups and the like - leaves you to concentrate on what you do best!

For £15 a month I'm happy with that price. I only have a website as 'everyone has a website' I could carry on doing what I do without one.
