I'd like the option of accepting credit card payments from customers, over the phone (or by emailing a payment link?) At the moment everything is just bank transfer (we are 100% B2B and will remain so).

Any recommendations of service providers to have a look at?

Most providers (e.g. Stripe, WorldPay, GoCardless) will do Pay by Link, and Card Not Present (CNP) transactions via either a virtual terminal or a physical card machine if you also need one for in person transactions.

We are with Cardnet, but the majority of our transactions are chip and pin, so low risk.

I would be very careful with over the phone credit card payments as they’re very much open to fraud. You have to ensure you get the address details and they match on every transaction; if you don’t the person paying can just claim the money straight back from their card provider. Stolen cards are still very much a thing unfortunately.

If you can, I would stick with bank transfers, it looks for an online option like world pay etc.

Thanks.

Stripe - pay by link - looks like exactly what I need.

We use SumUp. Switched to them during Covid when we had no business, but still had to pay monthly fees to Barclaycard/worldpay. Very impressed with them.

The other thing to bear in mind is that fees to process corporate cards can be much higher than personal cards.

Again, thanks.

I had assumed SumUp was more of a card present platform, but I've just had a look and there is a pay by link option. I'll investigate further.

Exactly what I use, works fine.

All of our customers, like yours, are business, so very low risk of them using a fraudulent card. Stripe, by default, asks for the postcode, although this can be disabled.

Just a quick update -

I set up a Stripe account - quick and easy. I've sent a couple of payment links and been paid.

Perfect for what I needed - a couple of international payments. Fees are (fairly) expensive, but a lot easier than the alternative of getting set up as a supplier with some of these multi-nationals when I know they will be just one time things.

Thanks for the recommendations.
