eBay Scrapping Private Seller Fees
Discussion
The crazy thing is that Ebay are competing with a very poor competitor. Ebay Marketplace has a very poor search engine, has no obvious way of quickly listing a similar item and is a haven for scammers, with Facebook doing everything they can to keep it that way. Its only redeeming feature is that it is free to use.
If I remember correctly, Ebay bought Gumtree, and have kept that in the dark ages for fear of having a good local area competitor.

I find Facebook Marketplace impossible to use when looking for cars. First of all half of the adverts are clearly scams, and secondly the search feature is impossible to use and seems to just show random adverts not what I have actually searched for.
I gave up in the end and went back to eBay.

Thisismoney ran an article yesterday but have removed it, possibly they were jumping the gun .
I believe it starts from October 1st
I think this was the article

Interesting - not seen anything from eBay...
It's crazy really - eBay's fees have been extortionate for years and I only really list when these offers are on...
I've always said they could charge 1-3% and I'm sure they would still make good money but to now scrap the fees completely seems odd.
I'd like to see them make the site better, improve the app, improve searches and sort out the scammers but I can't see that happening if they are trying to compete with Facebook Marketplace!

You got a link at all? Nothing from eBay as yetI have some listing to do...
I wonder if it applies to existing listings or is it best to cancel and relist

It's a logical business decision, I don't know why they took so long to do it really.
They make their money on the sale fee so listings should always have been free.
Maybe I'm missing something.
You are missing something, there's no fees at all for sellers now,so how are they making money off private sellers? They make their money on the sale fee so listings should always have been free.
Maybe I'm missing something.

& you can guess who'll be earning the interest off of your money whilst in eBay balance. What they give with one hand lol.

As per the email I received today - From the 16th of October your money goes into 'eBay balance' where you can use the funds to shop directly on eBay or withdraw your funds to your bank account.

Why would any sensible person leave their money in their ebay account when they can transfer it to their own bank account immediately ?& you can guess who'll be earning the interest off of your money whilst in eBay balance. What they give with one hand lol.
