I just wondered who people are using for their commercial van insurance policies? The reason I ask, we have 1 vehicle in our fleet and have just purchased a second.

The first (Vauxhall Vivaro) costs us around £4000 a year to insure and the second (Peugeot Partner) I've just had quotes on ranging from £5918 to £14,000! The issue being that one of the drivers on the policy is 22 but even so this seems hugely excessive for a little van. We cannot have a fleet, any driver policy as there is a minimum requirement of 3 vehicles for this so I will have to insure them individually.

I thought the Aviva mini-fleet could be a single vehicle. We pay ~£1150 per van (10+ on policy), any driver over 25 with a single named younger driver. Includes a pretty chunky (but no fault) claim last year.

Aviva and Allianz will do you a 2 vehicle fleet.

You need a decent broker - try insurancejon on here

You really need 5+ before fleet starts getting competitive. Yes Aviva will do a 2 vehicle fleet, but they're incredibly fussy on the risks where you'll get a sensible quote.

A young driver won't be helping your quotes but I'm fairly certain there are other factors pushing the premium up too. Your best bet would be to speak to a couple of specialist motor brokers and see what they can do.

If possible limit the young driver to only one of the vehicles to keep costs down. Or if they only drive infrequently keep them off altogether and buy temporary cover for them as/when needed, it could work out a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the recommendation

I’m happy to have a look at it for the OP.

We have a couple of van underwriters that can accommodate them
