We’ve taken the policy offered by our accountants for years, decades even. But having just had a renewal through at double last year, plus the fact they’ve gone down the PE route, I suspect some serious margin making going on.

Any recommendations for fee protection insurance providers please?

And good/bad experiences of the process should we need to claim?

You've likely already got it as an extension of a legal expense or directors and officers policy.

This x 2

Although note it will cover either their panel accountants to sort out, or cap the hourly rate at the panel accountants as a max. Not whatever your accountant wants to charge

Just as an update, our commercial insurer confirmed we do already have cover for the policy in question, so no need to take it.

Thank you to the contributors, saved my business £400 so if we ever cross paths the beer are on me.

No problem OP

Insurance policies have a long list of sub limited policy extensions that most pay no attention to or have little interest in bar the main indemnity limits but they can be very useful, especially to an SME.
