Hi all,

I'm trying to organise the shipping of a palletised item I've sold to a buyer in Austria, not being a business or having ever had to deal with this before I'm somewhat at sea. The shipment is a piece of non-functional vintage machinery that has no commercial value, but has been bought as a display item for an exhibition.

The buyer has confirmed they have permission from their authorities to import the item, but they've asked me to gain either an export licence, or otherwise written permission that this isnt necessary, to ship from my end.

I've waded through a great many documents on the HMRC website and I'm still none the wiser...... would any PHers who have experience of the industry be able to help me at all please? If so, let me know and I can PM with any further details.

Thanks in advance!

Surely if you’ve ‘sold’ it, it must have a commercial value as stated on your invoice.

And even if it is non-functional it will originally have had a function and that is still valid as it could be fixed. So if it is the firing mechanism from an artillery gun you will need a licence. If it is just a bit of an old steam engine, probably not.

What is it? What did it sell for?

Is it a restricted item such as a valuable work of art/historical interest or illegal like ivory under a certain age?

Basically more info needed.

It might not be HMRC you have to get an export licence from - it would be which ever department oversees that product (eg. Defra for food/animals, maybe the Dept for Business for steam engines => https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/depart... )

you tend to get asked if its like a part than can go on a food mixer but also can go on an f16,

youd have to check with the DTI, good luck
