Google Local Services Adverts - Any Good?

I have a client this would work well for, but I’ve no experience recommending it - anyone have feedback?

It's google moving in on the Trust-a-trader / My Builder type of lead generation. I avoid those type of sites (as a customer) due to non existent vetting of businesses and knowing some of the local Herberts who generate work this way (but in fairness, seem busy). I think the background checks on google are for publicly available info (bankruptcies, criminality etc) rather than if you can actually do the job required.

I keep our Google MyBusiness page refreshed with 'updates' once a week as it also seems to keep the website indexed - but grateful that we don't advertise beyond. I imagine eventually the Google profiles for small businesses not on this approach will get bumped off the page.
