Carnet on photo gear
Discussion
I regularly work overseas and take a DSLR camera for professional and personal purposes. This goes in my hand luggage and have never been questioned as to its purpose.
I have a project starting in Cyprus in the New Year that will require me to take my pro-video camera, tripod, drone and some other bits.
Someone's flagged up that I may need to get a Carnet. I've had a look but cannot determine if this is the case or not. It's professional equipment but my client is a UK based entity so whilst I'm working in Cyprus, I'm not billing any institution there.
I've worked in Cyprus a lot and tend to book a package holiday for one instead of the usual Flight and Hotel you'd normally do for business trips - cheaper that way and nicer. So what's to say the gear I'm taking is for my personal pleasure... that I'm an enthusiastic photographer going on holiday?
Any insights greatly appreciated.

i needed a carnet in 2022 and will need another in 2024 unfortunately - we take 4 bags of commercial equipment to an Eire trade show contracted to us by a UK company - if stopped would be a convo and possible large bill for duty so i passed the carnet cost back to the 3rd party to pay, iirc it was £500+ thru local chamber of commerce.
For the hastle/saving of £500 i would do the private holiday. PITA to fill it in - for us 60+ items/lines, serial numbers, descriptions. Multiple sheets, carbon copies, have to check out at uk customs, check in Dublin customs, check out Dublin customs and checkin UK customs which means waiting to find right ppl with a big "stamp" in the airport. If you F it up you can be charged. If you have a business laptop you are meant to have a carnet...God know how a F1 team do it!
