i used a french company for french toll road electronic tags. The tag never worked, and I sent it back to them as faulty. The company is a total pain in the arse and they don't respond to most messages and they don't really care. They are now trying to charge me €30 for non-return of the tag. I don't really want to pay this clearly. I don't really want to get into a whole bunfight about who's fault it is if it did not arrive in the post. What are the implications of just ignoring this?

As long as you have proof of postage you are ok. Just send them a copy of the proof and get it signed on delivery/reception.

It seems you may have 'blown' it in that case.

As an aside, which company? I also had issues with a tag not working over the summer.

i'll just pay it and do a credit card chargeback then. The bank can decide who is being reasonable and who is not.

There’s a perfectly good UK company (that’s owned by the French parent company) Emovis, you even get good old fashioned uk DD protection for the tolls.
