Applying for a fairly senior role.

Would like some perspective on company culture and interview process, on a no name basis obviously!

Snap! Was looking at a role with these as it popped up on my Linkedin feed - not a senior role so won't be the same one.

Would be really interested in people's thoughts. I worked in a 'fintech' part of a large high street bank and would be interested in going back to that sort of environment.

Not directly but good friend and ex-colleague worked there in a senior "head of" position. He left around a year ago so things may have changed, but broadly it's very intense, target driven, sink or swim type environment. If you're a "Type A" you'll probably enjoy it.

The word on the street is they're attempting to soften things up a bit to look good to the regulators, but hopefully someone actually on the inside will be able to give more direct experience.

It's also a big company now so as often happens there are probably culture differences from dept to dept.

When doing this sort of research before, I've found it useful to get on LinkedIn and find ex-employees who are open to a 15-min chat. I imagine there will be loads from Revolut who will be open to speaking with you.

I don't have any inside views.

However somewhere near my area of expertise, it's tried for two years and failed so far to get a UK banking license, reportedly over concerns with mega growth rate and AML systems. Nik has done a Musk and gotten publicly shirty with the regulators. And earlier this year there was a really rather odd press release from the press and legal departments, not at all approved by the board, which stated that the 2021 accounts gave a true and fair view. The auditors BDO had in fact warned that there was a risk revenues were materially misstated as a significant amount couldn't be independently verified.

This is one of the things that concern me.

It seems that the firm is run by techs and business school types, there appears to be a widespread lack of experience and expertise in finance.

The success of the company IMHO hinges on obtaining the banking license and what I’m seeing so far isn’t exactly encouraging, without getting into the details.

TBF building a scale bank is really, really hard. Revolut isn't alone in this. Of the current cohort of challengers in Europe, N26 and Solaris have similar sized challenges.

Ah. Just read an FT article reporting they've been given an extension on reporting accounts for the second year in a row.

Thanks, hadn’t seen that.

I wonder if this is heading the way of Wework…

Sorry haven't got specific experience of the problem solving interview but I did interview there a while back for a senior role and it was a very poor experience. First interview very casual (with HR type person), they wanted to do a detailed follow up interview with a business person which was set up - the interviewer turned up late, no apology, wasn't prepared, asked one question and he couldn't be bothered after that! I asked the HR contact for feedback, got nothing.

I work in a related sector and have heard a fair amount of negativity from contacts (about their culture which aligns to my interview experience), also did a contract role for a supplier to them for a while which also didn't fill me with confidence.

Strangely they did contact me again a few weeks ago about another role which I politely declined to progress - not sure I would recommend anyone else to go there based on what i've seen / heard / experienced. Sorry thats not more helpful / positive!

On the contrary that is helpful, thank you! All perspectives have merit

If anything, this is making me go in with my eyes even more widely open smile
