I wonder if anyone has been in a similar situation.

I sold an item of quite some value, via a popular online auction site dedicated to those who collect cars.. (Its an engine not a car.)

The item was paid for in literally hours, by a charming man, and I've never heard from the buyer since, that was almost two years ago, he is overseas Middle East but no response at all to calls or mails.
I feel a little like the Chinese takeaway guy in that episode of Only Fools and Horses where Densel pays for his food then runs away.... Its like an online scam but the wrong way round smile

No huge problem we can keep the engine safe, but I have now paid tax in terms of profit we made on the deal and yet the new owner may at some point show up to collect it and for whatever reason refuse it.

More importantly, at what point am I legally able to simply refund him and sell it someone else? Id like to see it used not decaying in my facility.

Sell it again and keep the original payment safe? He may never turn up.

Yeah, but then he could sue for "loss of bargain".

Hes probably died or that rich he can't be bothered to collect.
It's been years
Sell again and move on.
Keep a record of all the times you've tried to contact him, just in case
Issue him a final...if you do not make contact to collect by such and such date then the item will he resold.
You could equally be charging him a storage fee.

I sold an outboard motor 2 years ago on eBay to a guy from Scotland.

He wanted me to deliver it and hadn't read the wording in the advert that said collection only categorically no delivery Arrangements will be made.

When I pointed that out to him I never heard from him again even though he had paid in full through PayPal

I've still got the outboard and I think I'll advertise it again now

Registered letter is needed, to confirm that has been given the option.
