Selling items or others on eBay, would I need to pay VAT?

Hi guys,

I've recently started selling a fair few items on eBay within a certain niche. I was thinking of offering a service whereby I would sell other people items for a cut as I am doing it already it and could provide convenience and other benefits.

What I am curious about is, if I went over the threshold would I have to pay VAT on the entire sale even though the majority would be paid to the owner of the item? I've had a look online at industries like pawnbroking but couldn't get my head around the legislation. Is there any way around having to pay VAT (which would probably make the idea unfeasible) short of using the person's eBay account?
