Hello all, does anyone know anything about small scale (~80x40mm) metal fabrication (there's a magnetic element if that's important)?

I'm trying to understand how to make a particular part / product, ideally in the UK if feasible. I have something similar to work from, but am really looking for someone who knows this stuff, and who might be able to point me in the right direction of a firm who could help make at least the first few 100s / 1000s for us.

On the off chance, does anyone on here know much about this stuff? Would be very grateful for any pointers 🙂

What sort of part, sheet, machined, single part, multiple part assembly?

Hi Smiler, good question - and actually something I hadn't thought to explain... It's multipart, sheet metal, simple, and folded and spot attached, powder coated, and at some point securely attaching reasonably strong magnetics. There may of course be a better / easier way to do all of it I'm unaware of which is also something I'd be keen to find out.

I used V and F. They had someone who works on cad to turn my drawings into properly dimensioned item before making.

Yes CAD is the way to start. If it’s parts from flat sheet you can get them drawn and then laser cut.

Ok, that doesn't seem too difficult, I might be able to help you with that.
As others have mentioned, a CAD model is the first step.
If you want to send me a PM, we can have a look.

I have drawn many flat sheet parts in 2D CAD (I don’t known how to do 3D stuff) and got them laser cut.

A long time ago, I used to do some finance work for this company based near Edinburgh who did a lot of prototype/small scale metal case builds.

Looking at their website they seem to still do it.

hi there, I run a metal fabrication firm that specialises in smaller runs of products. I'll send you a dm with my details if you'd like a call. We typically beat any quote. Thanks
