Just a daft question. Last week I came up with an idea and wondered if there were any legs in it.

Without going into detail, I just want some advice on where to start if I wanted to get into clothing/brand stuff, how you would go about this, I know there are companies out there who provide T-shirts, baseball caps, etc etc, but who and how would be best to market a product if you brought it to market. I'm looking more at 20-30 YO's

Plenty of companies that provide white-label clothing clothing that you add your own label to. Just a case researching the right products at the right prices.

If you're looking to create something truly unique from scratch, then you need to buddy up with a fashion consultant or similar - hit LinkedIn to see who's about.

The options on marketing the brand are near infinite and are determined by the capital you're willing or able to invest and the nature of the brand you want to develop. Again, it's best to do your own research as doing so may reveal angles you hadn't thought of previously.

The big challenge is distribution. You could probably cope with shipping off 100 caps a week, but what about a 1,000. Plus 500 t-shirts. So depending on your anticipated scale, you need to speak to fulfilment houses and the cost involved which will typically comprise a standing charge and a cost per-item.

Lots of people want to get into this industry and there may be a 1% chance of your brand working and making you very rich and a 99% chance of it failing and you losing what you invested. If your first attempt is in the 99% you need to realise this quickly, and be able to put it behind you, cut your losses and try something different.

Don't make too many garments and don't invest too heavily in things like bespoke websites and complex distribution networks until you've shown the concept can sell.

I've seen people invest many tens of thousands believing their concept will work, produce hundreds of each item in a range, build a bespoke web site and commission logistics companies only to see only a few tens of clothes sold and then keep investing further but the reality was their designs weren't the right ones for the consumers at this time.

Apart from this best of luck and I hope you're in the 1%.

Marketing. Influencers/youtubers and social media.

Is there any independent trendy shops or vintage shops that would let you have a small space in the shop?

We have a local company doing local inspired clothing who has a basic site and a small space in a shop down one of the yuppy streets yes
