Unpaid Director - Tax Relief on Expenses
Discussion
I am a Director of the Estate Management Company for the estate I live on. This role is unpaid and the Directors don't claim expenses back from the company by mutual agreement - it would be more trouble than it's worth for the amounts involved. I probably average 100 hours a year on this role - but I don't record my time.
I have a PAYE job as my main employment, and I have to do a Tax Return every year.
Can I claim tax relief under Employment Expenses on my tax return for expenses incurred in the unpaid role? I'm thinking things like mileage for attending meetings, buying the drinks and cakes for meetings, maybe a bit of stationary? Probably only talking £200/yr, but it's £80 back in my pocket if I can.
The other thing I was thinking of claiming is the "Working From Home" - I've claimed that in the past when the rules were relaxed for COVID off the back of my day job, but won't be eligible this year as I'm not required to work from home and I have a desk in an office a mile away. The Director role does require me to work from home as we have no premesis.
