Is it just me or is anyone else fed up living here? Personal tax, then tax on my business profits which is again rising from 19% to 25%, tax on everything I buy from money I created and already paid tax on!!!. When I look at the amount of tax I pay between myself and the business it’s obscene and annoys the hell out of me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for paying it and providing for the infrastructure and services it provides for but the tax burden at the moment is too high if you’ve worked hard and done well whereas if you’ve not, it feels as if the state is trying to ‘level up’ by giving those with much less (though choice or bad luck perhaps) handouts galore to bring them upto what’s considered by many a pretty decent income level.

In my job (mortgage broker) I see loads of different situations and the amount of money that the state gives perfectly normal people per month is crazy. Ie Mr earns 27k say and Mrs earns 8k Pa and the state seem to give them a huge amount each month in top ups. It’s not a one off, lady around the corner has never works in her life but is perfectly able to, she now has to do 16 hours per week to keep her benefits of circa £38k Pa plus a £500k council house for her and her kids!! Then we have millions being squandered each day housing the boat people.

The tax burden is too high, it takes away any incentive to earn more as you just get clobbered with a higher tax take. They’ve changed dividends tax rates so it’s pretty much the same as PAYE now.

Seriously considering moving abroad, keeping the business here in the UK but living abroad to benefit from lower tax rates (not looked into it yet, this is more a rant but I’m sure I can’t be the only one feeling like this?). For example, you can live in Portugal through one of their schemes and pay no income tax for ten years whereas here you end up paying around 65% if you factor in tax on profits too.

Anyone done it and left? Where did you go and how was it? Did you have kids and how did they adjust?

Check your PI and compliance as when I looked at it very briefly they were not keen on client data leaving the country even though lenders process stuff in India.

On paper being an Algarve tax excile looks great, in reality you will find yourself in God's waiting room looking back at the UK and wondering what culture you're missing out on. It costs a lot to live in the UK for a reason.

It only costs a lot because the government we squander it.

Id not be so concerned at paying the high tax if it actually resulted in decent services, roads, infrastructure etc. But it doesnt. Quite literally everything is worse than its ever been, but the tax burden higher than its ever been.

Can you survive OK on sub £50k and dump the rest into pensions? If so, wind back the work and pay less tax.

Please, everyone, if you need a mortgage, avoid me. I don't want to earn any more money, and I'll resent you for making me do it.

I'm fed up of living here, but it's mainly due to our crappy weather, poor supermarkets, crowded roads, potholes, Boris and Brexit. I'd love to live somewhere warm, with proper fish, meat and cheese counters, and glorious roads. But if you love the UK and earn a lot of money, then why wouldn't you take pride in being one of the few who contribute most to it? Are you really complaining about helping people less fortunate than you? Those escaping war and very poor living conditions? I assume you were born here in the UK. If so, that was by no doing of your own. It was just a lucky accident on your part.

I think you are missing the point, I don’t mind paying tax but feel the burden is too much, so much so that I’m considering leaving the Uk and wondered if I was alone or anyone else was along the same lines of thinking……

If you're paying obscene amounts of tax then you're in a very privileged position.

Enjoy the even more obscene amount of money you're left with after you've paid tax and get on with your life.

I hear you. You’re angry about it so probably came across a bit worse than you meant too, obviously PH will take you down…. All the do gooders on here can be tiring.

I think you mean you’re just feeling no longer incentivised to chase the big ££££££ for most of it to be handed over, I feel the same. Only way to get your own back is to work less, chill out, earn less and pay less tax. Otherwise carry on, you wont beat the system………

Or, earn your money and pay your share (whether or not you feel it's just).

I've paid tax on my earnings, tax on my company profits and tax on the proceeds of selling my company more than once. That's life. Running away for purely financial reasons seems to me to be a short-sighted solution.

I’m happier with the “boat people” than people like you.

Hope your garish website includes free judgement as part of your service.

When you live abroad, you live in an expat bubble of not knowing what is really happening in the country you live.
Partly through not being fluent, not being in tune culturally, not being able to effect change and apathy.

Financial reasons are not the only consideration.

How do you integrate if you move to Dubai or even Portugal.
You only integrate to a certain extent.I have friends whom have taken French nationality but they are still British and are viewed as such, because they were not born French. They don’t have the French DNA,sense of humour etc.
