What am I missing?

Gocardless cap their fee at £4

Stripe dont cap their fee

I'd be looking at taking payments of £600 upwards to several thousand.

Is the stripe offering that much better than gocardless? It seems for bigger payments it's a no brainer to go with gocardless but I cannot see why stripe allow this

Any tips? Any alternatives?

I use gocardless for 700 transactions per month. So easy to set customers up and very cheap fees.
I also set-up https://www.godashboard.co.uk/ as the analytics of gocardless are not very good.

GoCardless use DirectDebit right? That's great for fees but I'd imagine people are a lot more hesitant to set up a direct debit than use a credit/debit card so they're not directly comparable products.

- Seems they now also do direct bank payment too, still similar point to above although maybe something that'll become more common. I'd probably prefer to pay with credit card on a ~£600 transaction though.

Is it B2B or B2C, if the former you might be able to charge a processing fee on stripe to encourage people to use gocardless.

If you are taking UK payments then Vendreo is hard to beat.

Fees are a fraction of the other options.

The direct debit guarantee give the customer a lot of security against false payments etc.

Be very careful with Stripe when it comes to customer charge backs, we have had several clients get stung by them due to fraudulent orders with questionable credit card details and their support has been non-existent.

Did you actually contact Stripe? What default card processing settings did you have in place, and especially for shipping to a different address to that of the registered cardholder?

Stripe also offer direct debit as a payment method which is basically all gocardless do, but stripe offer a ton of other payment options too like Apple Pay, cards etc. we use stripe direct debit for billing our customers but switched from gocardless for the reason above.

Thanks folks

This is B2C. We have contacted stripe who are very difficult to deal with and have refused to set us up citing some reasons that 100% do not apply to us. They think we are a money laundering risk.

We are not up and running yet on the business front either.

I'm very new to payments so don't really know what I'm doing. We need an additional service as well: ID checking so that we have a clearer idea of who to to after if payments fail or our business is used to commit fraud by any customers

I don't envisage the above routinely happening but I've been stung for big amounts in the past and am now very risk averse

So what is the best way of taking variable one of payments from customers and what's the best ID check? Our customers will be submitting their name, address and card details to use our service. We need to make sure these items all tally.
