Sent some loan equipment to a company in Ireland before brexit happened. Now they’re finished with it but want me to collect it.

I have the paperwork to prove I sent it (palletised). Can I just go and pick it up in the van, can prove it’s mine, or is it asking for drama at customs?

Weve recently taken stuff to Ireland for a trade event and now you need a carnet from local chamber of commerce which would be stamped 4 times (out of uk, into Dublin, out of Dublin, into Uk) PITA and cost us £500+ for the privilege. Id imagine getting stopped could be a even costlier

Id check your local chamber of commerce website and give them a call, mine (Birmingham) were really helpful when we did our first carnet

You may be able to claim a re-entry to the UK as returned items.

Can they just drive it into Northern Ireland for you to pick up there? Then just ship it on a pallet from NI? smile

Otherwise, have a look at this page about Returned Goods Relief: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/returning-goods-to-the...

Spoke to HMRC ‘help line’. Due to the value of the goods i need to do a full import declaration, something about goods by vehicle etc etc.. Openly said you’ll need a freight importer to do it, too difficult to do otherwise.

What. A. Nightmare. Why have they made it soo difficult post brexit?

Go collect in Dublin, drive to Belfast or Larne and get boat home

There are no checks between Dublin and Belfast.

Last year I checked the initial delivery rules. In my case it was a newbuilt company laptop going to a contractor for the duration of the contract.

It counted as an import to the EU. Duty would have been due on it, annoyingly. I found another solution instead.
