Marketing firms...
Discussion
Ok,
I have been looking for a marketing firm for my company.
One has contacted me and what they do is contact firms on your behalf on Linked In. The problem I have is that they want access to my LinkedIn page, which includes the password of course. They then send messages "from me".
My question thus is, would anyone allow this? It seems a touch risky to me in that anything could be sent on my behalf etc which may cause more issues than they solve.. Or they might be completely on the level and I will get lots more business..........
Anyone used such a firm etc ? Anyone think it is worth a go? Or do people share my reservations.?!?..

It's entirely legitimate. I occasionally run Social Media campaigns for local authorities and am given free admin access to their recycling or waste services social media.
They key is to get some references from other clients to check them out and monitor what they do.
The one thing I would add from a personal perspective is that I am growing increasingly annoyed at the level of unsolicited emails and messages I'm getting via LinkedIn. This has become increasingly noticeable in just the last 12 months..... people saying that they're 'impressed with my strategy' or 'knocked out by the work we're doing' before going on to offer what is often exactly the same services that we ourselves provide.

Thank you, I will ask for a couple of references. They key is to get some references from other clients to check them out and monitor what they do.

We (mostly I) do this all the time, I'm head of Digital for an agency and at most points we have 5-6 clients where we are the ones being them. The others who don't want us to be them, I do a lot of training with and offer oversight and monitoring as they go, usually 3 - 6 months at a time.
Using 'your' profile on Linkedin usually works far better than using the companines page, Linkedin works brilliantly with personal outreach, we've done a few things with a light touch input that have yielded far greater results than PPC on Linkedin.
Its also pretty common now on Linkedin to have a Dave / Diane Doesn't exist as a company member for Linkedin, less awkward when someone leaves and takes a load of useful contacts with them.

One of our customers used a service like this.
The marketing company would often post industry related news on LinkedIn as the company they were representing.
One particular post, was an article written by our clients main competitor, which when clicked, took people to the competitors website.
Safe to say, that service was stopped rather promptly.
No one knows your company and industry as well as you. The problem is time in learning how to do this right and constructing good content. Thats why we all turn to outsourcing.

How else would an external agency run such a campaign?
Perfectly normal and reasonable.
Nope its not, they could use their very own plattflorm to get ads, just get in touch to the linkedin ads staff and haggle that out. Perfectly normal and reasonable.
You also can contact as an agency any linkedin "influencer" and he manages shout outs which is way more effective than ads placed by Microsoft.
