20’ shipping container cost from China?
Discussion
Have the prices rocketed?
I got the hard sell from a supplier today on the basis of price increases coming.
He stated, a year ago they were paying around £750, around 5 months ago £1250 and now
they are struggling to find a shipper and looking at paying around £5k for a 20’ container.
Is this likely?

The whole marine cargo market is screwed at the moment. We just managed to find a container and get it on a boat 2 weeks ago albeit at 50% more than usual. This week we are struggling even to find a container never mind a boat to put it on and no-one will commit to a price.
Usually there is a premium for pre Christmas arrivals, now the price seems to be going up well above even that.
We also face issues with the box on the water, as Felixstowe is stuffed full and now the other ports are being affected. We are being told we might have to pay, either for the boat to float around waiting or for storage at the port while they try to sort out trucks.

my current prices are showing
£2.8 for a 20
£5.4 for a 40
and 5.8 for a 40hq
I thought it was gunna be worse, im thankful all shipments inbound left some ago, but this is pretty rubbish, we cant seem to get stock delivered...
Shippers have added 1k in transit do quotes mean nothing too. And will seize your goods unless you agree to their ransom. Did I say scum. Before COVID it was 2.5k for a HQ. It’s 10k to the US. £2.8 for a 20
£5.4 for a 40
and 5.8 for a 40hq

So my quoted amounts on shipment will be higher now?
At any time before arrival they can add any surcharge they want. Anything or if you refuse return the box to origin. Like I said scum. This is the shipping line not your agent. I will pay and take my agent to court for breach of contract. Abroad shippers have dropped containers in different ports and said tough st. Did I say, scumMy question is why?
The reason I asked if it was for the actual box or the x to y is that I deal in containers and we have just had our supply tap turned off totally.
I was getting a few boxes a week but now it not likely I will see any more this year.
It's been getting worse for months and we have gone from ordering 10 to 15 at a time to 1or 2.
There is something going on in the background and it's not quite clear what yet.
A conspiracy theorist would be talking about global resets and the like but this may just boil down to supply/demand and demand denial now we are all hooked on the product. Less product for much more money.
Let's see.

It’s simple. Shippers profiteering. Half the fleet is at the Dock saving maintenance. Other half can’t cope with demand. Rates go up. Shippers pick and choose most profitable routes.
