I know its early days yet, but does anyone know how the £10k and £25k grant will work?

We rent a shared office and tenancy agreement states that we are liable to pay rates which is 0 due to SBRR.

I assume that we cannot get the £10k grant with it being a shared office?

I filled in the very clear and straightforward form for my council today -

https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/coronavirusbusinessfund

The name on the rates bill is the person who’ll get the money. If it’s shared office in someone’s name, then I guess it could be shared once it lands?

Interesting we will be sending payments directly to the bill payer with no application process.

Our council website also says no application needed it will be automatic. I've tried to call but it is constantly engaged so I hope they are correct but I've heard nothing yet.

We are waiting for the software ti be issued to us. Once done and tested.we are good to go.

Most business rate teams are small... We have 6 for 12000 properties. Cant bring staff from ctax over as they are under the cosh from worried ctax payers

This is what my LA has said (Kirklees)

“ In addition, businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000 will be eligible for a £25,000 grant to help mitigate loss of trade or other impacts of the virus.

All businesses with a rateable value of less than £15,000 and who are already in receipt of Small Business Rate Relief, Rural Rate Relief or tapered relief will also be eligible for a £10,000 grant.

You do not need to apply for the grants. If you are eligible we will write to you by the end of week commencing 23rd March to provide further information. Some businesses will need to confirm their details via a simple online form that will be available this week and we will update this site when this in in place. We expect to make payments as soon as possible in early April when funding becomes available from Government.”

I just hope the postman puts the letter in the correct mailbox as he often doesn’t

Just put in my application yesterday afternoon to Fife council. Said they would aim to pay within 10 working days of receiving the application.

Are these grants taxable income? Will be a kick in the nuts to have 29% of it taken away immediately.

Nothing of any substance on our councils website yet, hopefully get some updates or a letter soon.

Anyone else think its all a bit too good/easy to be true? I'm imagining a back pedal on a lot of the payouts with weird clauses

Already heard from a car dealer friend with a forecourt that they are not eligible as the land is classed as "Yard/Storage" and they are exempt.

I agree but to be fair I'm not sure what other details they have on account there than the address?

Arse. We're manufacturing so we wouldn't qualify.

Hi Rick,

you wouldnt be eligible for the hospitality grant but the small business grant you may:

"small business grant funding of £10,000 for all business in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief"

Thanks, unfortunately our rateable value is over the small business amount.

Rick since the revaluation in 2017 Councils were given money to give local discounts to properties that were affected by the revaluation

Maybe worth exploring that as they may be able to assist you ?

It states on my application form that: "I understand that any payment received must be declared to HMRC as appropriate as
part of the tax return for the business."

What the rules are regarding "State Aid" I'm not too sure...

My unit would definitely qualify for SBRR (1000sq ft on a farm) but it was only completed last July and hasn't been rated yet. I've written off to the valuations people and to my local council but not heard anything yet (not that I'm expecting to) hopefully they will be making some provision for people in my situation.

Just had an email from our landlord that we qualify on a £9900 rateable value. We’re in England in a multi company building like a posh Regus
