Having been roped into being my football club secretary this season I need to look into liability insurance for the team. Apparently we pay in the region of £45 per year to insure the players against injury. (I don't know any more than that at present).

We're looking at something which would cover players for loss of earnings due to injury whilst playing and training. One player this week broke his leg at training, missing several weeks of work. Another has a serious neck injury but is continuing to play.

What kind of policies would I be looking at? I suspect to get any decent level of cover we're talking a significant amount of money. Can anyone advise?

Thanks Jamie.

I had a chat with my Dad who works for an insurer, when trying to organise cover for their teams they experienced pretty much what you've said. I'm not sure what the present cover actually does, there are no premises so there is no occupiers liabilty arising there.

As you say I think whilst it would be nice, on balance it would be prohibitively expensive and if someone is that concerned about missing work maybe they should sort out their own healthcare cover.

Look up a company called Anthony Kidd Agencies. They specialise in the PA for amatuer sports clubs.
