Hi,

Just looking for some inspiration.

Can some of you recommend sites which you think are especially well laid out, easy to use etc.

In particular I'm intrested in sites that suply a service, maybe also sites that do this in a very easy way.

As I say, I'm just after some inspiration for a potentially new business site I will be setting up.

Many thanks all,

Cheer,

JC

Thanks for the suggestions.

Personally I do like good old PH, however it's not what I'm after - thats the point really, I don't know what I'm after.

I'm just intrested in finding out what people consider to be a "good looking" site, I suppose functionality is secondary, as thats more down to the development, it just really the look and feel I@m trying to get an idea of.

I'm about as creative as dead duck, and there of lots of web sites I like that others don't.

Personally I like ebay, wich the bright colours and photos on the homepage, otheres prefer a more clinical look.

Thanks again to all who've suggested, I did like the blue one, and any more suggestions are really welcome.

Thanks,

JC

Hi John, like a lot of creative things it is very subjective. As you said not everybody likes the same sites.

It is very important that when you are designing the web site you have to think about your target audiance. A B2B site that is targetting the corporate market place would have a different look and feel to one that is targetting consumers.

Have a look around at what your successful competitors are doing, it often gives a good idea of the norm in a market place. It's then up to you if you follow this.

Also what is the purpose of the site, is it for selling online, generating new business or for information. All of these impact the design.

If you are in any doubt about any feature/function of the website, just ask yourself 'how does Amazon do it' and you'll get a pretty solid useable design.

And whatever you do, don't promote form over function - PH is a very good example of a fairly minimal style where functionality is easy to access and clear without excessive clutter or overblown style.
