You would have to have any mods inspected by your local DVLA office when you try and change the taxation class.

Don't know about changing a 260 (used to sell them, nice bit of kit), for our L200s to be properly classed as commercials they have to have a payload in excess of 1000 kgs, I think with that boot you might struggle

Ah yes but the difference is that an L200 has to have a 1 ton payload due to having 4 seats. The 260 would be reduced to only 2 seats. at one point mg were doing the 25 as a van so the boot shouldnt be a problem.

cheers for the dvla pointer

In terms of VAT recouperation, IRC, what's needed is that the bolts to which the rear seats would otherwise be attached, needed to be welded over, and the rear side windows covered.

I had a client who used to run a fleet of Vitaras using this method. Although he never got the windows done or the fixings welded - just took the roof down and loaded them with kit whenever HMCE paid a visit!

The welding up seat belt mounts is utter tosh. As for the side windows find your nearest Van acessory dealer/Commercial vehicle specialists as they will be able to fit replacement solid side panels for you. If the vehicle is supplied in Van form from the dealership when new it's no problem to establish the vehicles status.

It's the bolts to which the seat was attached - not the seat belts.

Which I guess would make the Porsche GT3 technically a van!

This was quite a few years back so the ruling may have since changed.

The conversion MUST be done BEFORE you purchase / take delivery of the vehicle (I forget which) or else you won't be able to reclaim the VAT.
