Cold calling from India
Discussion
Anyone else getting cold calls from India/Pakistan?
I've had about 4 so far, trying to sell me Mobile phones or printer cartridges. If you ask them where they are based, they say UK.
However, they have strong Indian accents and a very bad line as they are using internet phones. So I'm 99% sure they are based in Asia.
They are really beginnning to p*** me off big time!

How did they get your phone number ?
I got a few marketing calls a year ago but since then these have stopped. I always ask if they are going to be watching tonights football match ...if they are really confused I know they are not U.K. based !
Make sure your number is not posted on profile pages if your using net-phone software
Also web domains should not have your personal numbers. For UK domains, you can opt to have personal details on hold. For US and international domains your full details are shown .
SPAMMERS also grab these addresses to bombard you with emails.

I always ask them what country they are calling from, then ask for the superviser and tell him I only speak to callers who are based in the UK or Ireland.

I have no idea.
I work from home with a business line, but they called my private ex-directory residence number that I never give out.
I think next time they phone I'm going to have some fun with them.
Random number dialler then perhaps?
Unfortunately the TPS are unable to stop them if they aren't UK based but they could well be an Asian subsidery of a UK company.
Registered with TPS 2 years ago and have had 2 cold calls since - once just after I registered (fair enough - it can take up to six months to filter them all out) and once cocky git from Holland who knew his rights and claimed that they weren't covered by TPS guidelines... had to have a bit of fun with him

Apparently only works with UK based call centres which is another reason a lot have moved abroad, so they can now call you again..
We get loads of cold calls from people with Asian accents - not being racist, just stating facts. The real irritating ones are those who claim to be from BT but are just trying to sell you cheaper calls through some shoddy telecoms outfit. I didn't want their call, I don't want their product, I just hang up.
Lately, we have been plagued with what I think are auto-diallers from the States. Phone rings, answer it, it clicks and starts ringing again in your ear. I'm guessing a green light flashes up in the States when their dialler gets a hit and then the 'salesman' at the remote end takes the call. I don't even bother waiting for the phone to answer at their end anymore.
