Help! I need some serious server space and bandwidth. I can either try to arrange thecapital to set it up myself or I can work with a server company on a rented system instead. The problem is not one of cost so much as one of expandability. It may require very rapid expansion but I beleive this can be a problem as downtime must be 0 due to the nature of the data to be stored.

Anyone here have experiance of such things or work in the idustry. I really need to pick someones brains and potentially find a provider who is capable of doing what I need. If anyone thinks they can help please let me know. Happy to go into more detail but the conversation is relativly commercailly sensative so can't really go into depth on-line.

Cheers

A

YHM but you don't have an email in your profile

Speak to someone at Serverstream. www.serverstream.net They sponsor the computer forum and are very very professional. I'm a client of theirs and have no complaints!

Try www.liquidweb.com/

I know someone who uses them and he says they are very good. Although they are based in the US, so not sure if that is a problem for you.

I've checked around the UK, but the prices here are too high.

My spec at Liquid Web came out as:

Windows 2003 $25 per month
MS SQL200 $400 per month for two CPU's!
Firewall $75 per month

Hardware $399 per month Dual xeon/3 x 36GB SCSI/2GB ram

Total $899 per month (£463 per month / £5,556 per year)

US works for some people... but UK hosting is noticably faster and you'll get a better service in most cases.

The US have a scheme where the government subsidised bandwidth to allow firms to use the internet for less cash. The UK government hasn't done this... so the web hosting companies still have to pay high bandwidth costs... which are then passed onto their clients.

You get what you pay for... I'm a UK host and my clients are stunned by the speed of their sites once they change over to me.

Had a bit of a chat with serverstream. At this stage it is very much a fact finding mission as we are still at the funding stage. Got some great info from them and Jamie could not have been more helpful.

Thanks to all for your help
